Class: Audience and Industry blog tasks

 Audience

3) What audience pleasures are offered by Class - Co-owner of a Lonely Heart? Apply Blumler and Katz's Uses and Gratifications theory to the episode. Make sure you provide specific examples from the episode to support your ideas. The consumers of the programme would like to watch programmes that have some sort of drama and romance which catches younger audiences attention.

Industries

1) What was the objective of BBC3 when it was launched? Its aim was too innovative and produce award-winning programmes, but not without generating some controversy along the way.

2) Why did BBC3 go online-only in February 2016? It was launched on 16 February 2016 as a replacement for the linear BBC Three television channel, which was discontinued the same day. ... In the year after it closed its linear broadcast platform its weekly audience of viewers aged 16–34 declined 69% compared with the year before the closure.

3) How does Class - Co-owner of a Lonely Heart meet the BBC's mission statement to 'inform, educate and entertain'? It entertains audiences because it has similar age groups to young adults and consumers of that age will relate to some of them.

4) How did the distribution of Class contribute to the failure of the show with audiences? There was a low amount of people who watched it and that was because they were started on the BBC Iplayer and then went to mainstream BBC later and was on at late times such as 11:30.

5) What advertising and marketing were used to try and promote Class to an audience? Why do you think this wasn't very successful? They had advertisements but still was unsuccessful because of the unfairness of the BBC.

4) How are representations of people, places and groups similar or different in the two shows? It's different because before there were mostly white people in shows whereas now they are people from every ethnicity including Ram from Class and people who are part of LGBTQ.

5) What similarities and differences can you find in terms of the audience pleasures for An Unearthly Child and Co-owner of a Lonely Heart? Older audiences will not watch Class because the programme is a fast-paced programme so people might have to stop the episode and replay, and it is related to younger audiences so older audiences might not understand what's happening in the programme as well as the younger audiences because of that. Younger audiences will feel bored while watching Doctor Who because it will be slow-paced and audience now like fast-paced programmes because they want to know what happens as soon as possible.
