1) What is the preferred reading of a media text?

producers can position the audience in a certain way and influence their reading so they accept the intended message by using recognised codes and conventions

2) What is the oppositional reading of a media text?

the audience rejects the independent message and construct an opposite reading instead this could be due to its own social.

3) How does the Harry Brown trailer position the audience to respond to the teenage characters in the film?
Some teenagers act tough and carry around weapons such as sharp objects e.g. knives, bottles, pens etc.

4) Why might young people reject this reading and construct an oppositional reading of the trailer?
Some teenagers are like that but some are who do there work and act like teenagers and do not act above their age.

5) Write a 150+ word analysis of the McDonald's advert using preferred, negotiated and oppositional readings.

Mcdonalds will give you a preferred reading by making you buy the big mac and telling you that the big mac is made with fresh beef patties/ fresh lettuce, fresh onions with cheese and two buns on top of each other as well as other things inside the delicious burger.

The oppositional reading will tell you that the big mac is unhealthy and then people who are on diets will not eat it and then there could possibly be a loss of profit. It could also lead to obesity by eating it and that can lead you to health issues later in your life then you will never look at the advert again and tell people not to buy it too.

The negotiated reading tells us that the big mac will be very heavy for a person who is dieting but also be very tasty for some of them and other people who enjoy MacDonalds and they could have health issues but they will still eat because they think that the big mac or MacDonalds is delicious.

6) Now find your own advertisement and write a 150+ word analysis using preferred, negotiated and oppositional readings

The preferred reading of Nike trainers is that the designs of the shoes make you want to buy them and they are very comfortable while wearing them and you can wear them for a long period of time and they have lots and lots of shelves of different shoes that you would like

the oppositional reading is that the colours are not in shades and are picked out of random and the shoes are uncomfortable and are also creased after wearing them for long periods of time and will start falling apart. They make the shapes look tilted. they also are very expensive and if you go to another store that sells shoes e.g. Adidas will have shoes looking better then shoes in Nike and will be a good price not too expensive and will not fall apart for a very long time.

the negotiated reading tells us that the colours are random but the shoes are comfortable for some people and are a very good fit and will never fall apart. but they will be creased over time so the shoes have good and bad reasons to or not to buy them.
