Introduction - Tatler Media pack

1) Look at the Tatler Media Pack. Go to page 2: how does the editor introduce the magazine?
The editor introduces the magazine with a woman in an office reading a Tatler magazine page with a glass of water on her desk as well as a picture behind her that might be part of the Tatler magazines.The word richest suggests that the people who are educated and been to higher education e.g. University would read this type of magazine. 

2) Now go to page 4 of the Media Pack. Focus on the print magazine (NOT tatler.com - the website). List the key demographic details: age, gender %, ABC1 % (social class), HHI (Household Income), % of those living in London and the South East. What do these demographic details suggest about the average Tatler reader?

3) Look at page 6. What do Tatler readers think about fashion? How much do they spend? They spend about £1.2 million per month.

4) Go to page 10. What are the special editions of Tatler that run throughout the year? What does this suggest about the psychographic groups?
They have been 6 special editions as well as being aimed and referred to one gender only.  


Media language

1) What different examples of typography can you find on the cover of Tatler? What are the connotations of the serif and sans serif fonts? 
the title and other important titles are in serif fonts but the not important information is in sans serif font.
2) How do the cover lines appeal to the Tatler target audience?
Taltler target audiences are people in the high hierarchy they apeal by using words that they may or may not know.

3) What are the connotations of the Tatler colour scheme on this particular front cover?
The front cover is mostly plain but has some dark colours such as the girls dress and the zebras that are black and white.

4) How is the central image designed to create interest in the magazine? Find three reasons for your answer. (E.g. Mise-en-scene such as props, costume and make-up, body position, facial expression)who reads Tatler?
people who are posh and wealthy would read magazines such as Tatler because they are wearing suits and expensive dresses as well as jewellery. 

the costumes are designed for people to catch the model.
the props such as trees are there to inform that the magazines might be for adventurous people.
the make-up is bright to catch the readers attention.




Representations

1) What different groups of people are represented on the cover? (E.g. men/women/white people etc. Look at the image and text/cover lines to help here)   Manly white woman are presented in Talter who are wealthy and can relate to it. 


2) What do the cover lines suggest about the lifestyle of rich people in the UK?
They show that they do expensive activities such as Horse riding and wear expensive clothes.

3) Are there any stereotypes being reinforced or subverted? How? Why?

Tatler targets their magazines to higher class people as inside the magazine they show expensive things likes places to travel and expensive products that include make-up jewellery and more such as clothes.
4) What would be the preferred and oppositional readings to this cover of Tatler?

The Oppositional reading will say its full of gossip and they are talking about peoples personal life.
The preferred reading will say that they are talking about rich people. 


Social and cultural context

1) What aspects of British life or people are NOT reflected in Tatler? (Watch the clip above again if you need help with this - the clue is in the title 'Posh People') People who are quite posh will read the magazine because they can relate to it.


Working class people will not be involved with Tatler because Tatler uses posh and wealthy people. Tatler would not show less educated in the magazine. This is because it does not target this group of society.

2) Tatler runs special issues on holidays, spa breaks, cosmetic surgery, watches and jewellery and private schools. What does this suggest about the magazine's representation of life in Britain? This will be aimed at wealthy people because if a normal person will not relate to the magazine as wealthy posh people.

3) What audience groups might be offended or insulted by the front cover of Tatler April 2017? People will be offended because Tatler talks about wealthy activities.



4) Find three other front covers for Tatler. What issues, subjects or people are regularly featured in Tatler?
