Advertising key conventions

1) What key conventions of an advert can you find and what are the connotations of each one?
The picture shows that whoever wears the shoes are very fast and you can be the best in any sport that uses
running.

2) For each convention, write about how this appeals to a target audience.
The picture will tell the audience about the product which is a shoe that makes you run faster than normal.

The logo is nice and bright in the left bottom corner which is a tick which symbolises peace and victory.

The background uses dark and bright colours such as white and black which shoes that the person in the picture is playing football in a stadium.

The slogan 'Explosive Speed' suggests that the shoe is very comfortable and you can run fast in them.#

The colour scheme is dark as well as bright with colours including white, black, orange and blue.

3) What is the USP (unique selling point) of the product and how do you know?

The shoe is different from others because it has a different design to the other shoes that this manufacturer has made and these will most likely get sold quicker because of their style. I know this because the advertisement is about the shoe.

Extension task

If you have completed an in-depth analysis of an advert of your choice, do some additional research into creative or powerful print advertising.

Task: Find an example of a print advert for EACH of the following:
Red writing is the USP
1) A clear brand identity-This product is different because this company does not sell anything that is similar to another company,

2) A shocking or controversial idea-This product tells you something that another product does to you.

3) An emotional connection to audience-This product tells people who smoke to stop or they will regret it later.

4) An innovative or ‘different’, subversive concept (e.g the porcupine advertising VW car)-This car is very different to other cars or companies because it is faster then its usual cars or other manufactures cars.

5) A foreign advert that you can understand despite the language barrier-In this advert- you can tell what it's talking about without knowing what it sys because the pictures help you understand what is written.
